This page is dedicated to the lifetime of kung fu / gong fu (in the Chinese martial arts sense) that I learn from my dad, brother, sifu and Ving Tsun community.
Currently there are 21 words related to Kung Fu and Ving Tsun in the dictionary. More will be added only as I learn and the meanings will evolve as I practice my kung fu.
These are terms/titles to respectfully address those in a kung fu community or family, including classmates, teachers, your teacher's classmates, your teacher's teacher, your teacher's teacher's teacher and so on.
"Lineage" is used here because the terms have a parallel to the language used for familial relationships. In Cantonese, there are specific terms for younger sister or younger sister, older sister or older brother, younger aunt or older aunt (in relationship to your parent) and even specifically younger or older aunt on your mom or dad's side.
詠春拳 Ving Tsun related words comes from my practice of Ving Tsun with Sifu Miguel Hernandez and the NYC Ving Tsun community. Sifu Miguel Hernandez learned from 師公 Si-Gong 梅逸 Moy Yat, who we address as our 師公 Si-Gong (Sifu's teacher), and Si-Gong Moy Yat learned from our 師太公 Si-Dai-Gong (Sifu's teacher's teacher, our kungfu great-grandfather), 葉問 Yip Man. This branch of Ving Tsun is considered be part of Yip Man family lineage.
"Day" subheadings in any word's defintion refer to my own written records. Everyone's timing and pacing is their own and this doesn't reflect any particular timeline for learning or practicing.
