A Story
篤 = poke (⺮ or 竹 bamboo + 馬 horse)
篤 = poke
撐 = to push or move with a pole (扌hand)
篤篤 diretcly translates to "poke" "poke". You can think of the music as being created by poke, poking (tapping/hitting) objects. There's a sense of humor and onomatopoeia to the combination of words.
My parents described this to me laughing because the words sound like what they're describing.
It expressively reflects the old genre of folk music, which I learned is actually specific to Cantonese culture.
When I think of the sound, I think of metal objects clashing in a kind of theatrical way. I think it was a kind of music that was used in theater.
