伏手 referred to as "fok sau" in Wing Chun is a hand position.
The 伏手 fok sau is relaxed and loosely hanging with palm faced down. Like the fully extended position of the 攤手 taan sau, the fok sau's forearm and elbow is in line with the 心口 solar plex. The elbow is a fist's length away from the body, is directly behind the forearm and the forearm is slightly bent toward the body.
The wrist of the 伏手 fok sau, 攤手 taan sau and 膀手 bong sau always occupies the same point in space. If you were to hold up your opposite hand to point and reference the 中手 eye of the hand, the 中手 will be at the same spot no matter the transitions between all three 伏手 fok sau, 攤手 taan sau and 膀手 bong sau.
5.22.23 Day 30
In the 單黐手 dan chi sau drill, the 伏手 fook sau is relaxed and lightly rests on the forearm of the other person's 攤手 taan sau. The purpose of the 伏手 fook sau is to sense or detect any slight movement in the muscle of the forearm. Should the other person strike, the 伏手 fook sau is ready to turn into a 窒手 jut sau. The purpose of the 單黐手 dan chi sau drill is to develop sensitivity.
