4.16.23 Day 17 - The Fist
Sifu: very important to make sure the knuckles of the fist are aligned. It is very simple, yet very hard to do.
The Fingers must roll into the palm and be held tight, but the pinky must not be tucked in.
You should feel the weight, power and density of the fist.
Our Si-Gong used to say: 糯米拳 "lo mai kuen" which is a play on the 點心 dim sum dish 糯米雞 lo mai gai. Instead of rice packed with chicken, a fist wrapped full and loaded with rice.
The Punch
3.11.23 Day 5
The punch goes straight in front of you along the center line from the 心口 solar plex, the elbows don't full extend and the fist does not point up or down, but is parallel to the arm. This must be relaxed and when the punch is completed, one must let go. Once the energy is used, it is unnecessary to waste more energy by holding on to it.
3.20.23 Day 10
Si-Hing Joe: Stay loose, relax should and SNAP! with the punch. The slightest difference, the snapping motion of elbow keeps elbow in more
3.27.23 Day 14
Si-Hing Alex: The punch is like a mace. The fist is tight and heavy. The arm, elbow and limb is loose. Sometimes when practicing: punch, then open hand to train to loosen after the punch.
3.15.23 Day 16
Si-Hing John: Thee elbow is the force behind the punch. Like pushing a cart, want the most direct force pushing the cart. The fist is the cart. The elbow is driving it. The fist is like a car full of people (the fingers) and your elbow is driving it. The fist is just along for the ride. This is all about efficiency, economy of motion.
